As Canada Research Chair in Oncology, Dr. Chambers is an internationally recognized expert on cancer metastasis. Metastasis spread of cancer to new organs causes most cancer deaths. Dr. Chambers has developed new ways to image metastasis experimentally. She has identified dormant cancer cells that resist treatment and later form metastases. She has shown that the protein osteopontin contributes to metastatic ability and is a biomarker for cancer progression in patients. Since 2003, she has produced over 90 publications, many co-authored by her trainees, and work from her lab is highly cited by other scientists.
