The extent to which cancer patients use Intensive Care Unit (ICU) services, a significant portion of hospital and health care costs, and the outcomes associated with that use have not been well described. Furthermore, critically ill cancer patients are excluded in most intensive care trials; this precludes the inclusion of this patient population in evidence-‐based guideline recommendations.
The primary objective is to establish an Oncological Critical Care Research Network (ONCCC-‐R-‐NET) that would 1) Enable academic, clinical and research collaboration among the members of this network, 2) Make feasible the conduction of large longitudinal and randomized oncologic critical care trials, and 3) Facilitate government funding applications.
