A loose affiliation of researchers around the world have organized epidemiological, clinical, and basic research into gastric cancer in Nicaragua which has increased in recent years, as gastric cancer develops in later years, and the population is living long enough to be stricken. Tissue is taken from biopsies and resection specimens and: 1) paraffin embedded,scored pathologically, and unstained slides; 2) harvested for analysis of Helicobacter pylori, the cancer-causing bacterium; 3) harvested for DNA/RNA analysis.
